Abstract

Ageing is determined by genetics and the environment. Genetics usually influences one third of the ageing process with the remaining being environmental factors, including lifestyle and socioeconomic factors.
Lifestyle factors include smoking. obesity, physical activity and diet. People who have diseases will die early. Those who avoid diseases will live longer. In Japan. which has the longest life expectancy the main factor that affects death is smoking, followed by high blood pressure and physical inactivity (The Lancet, 2011) Physical activity is one of the main factors that also affects life expectancy.
