Stress forcing teachers to quit noble profession

Abstract

LETTERS: On April 18, the National Union of the Teaching Profession reported that over the last few years, 10,000 teachers had applied for early retirement.

This is a worrying trend as we are losing experienced teachers, which will affect the quality of education.

If this issue is overlooked, the Malaysia Education Blueprint 2015-2025's goal of making teaching a profession of choice will not succeed.

Studies have revealed that heavy workload, lack of teaching staff, poor classroom conditions, and lack of administrative and technical assistance from the ministry and state education department may affect teachers' decision to leave.
