Abstract
Immigration personnel at entry points must ensure greater scrutiny of documents presented by foreigners from “high-risk” countries to prevent cases of overstaying and illegal employment, criminologists and border management experts said.
They said foreigners had easily slipped past immigration control, leading to an influx of overstayers and illegal workers. Immigration personnel, they said, had failed to detect suspicious activity, such as inability to show sufficient funds for subsistence or failure to provide a valid accommodation address in Malaysia, at checkpoints.
