PM: Deeper look at context of UiTM's establishment shows it's still relevant today

Abstract

SHAH ALAM: The establishment of Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) as an institution of higher learning to assist the Malays in the country must be viewed in a deeper context.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said this includes the issues and challenges faced by the Malays related to the education system in the past.

He added that if the context of poverty among the Malays was to be examined, as highlighted and expanded upon by the distinguished linguist Tan Sri Zainal Abidin Ahmad, it was was not solely about wealth and money but also encompassed education, perspective and aspirations.

"We cannot shy away from the reality that the Malays and Bumiputera need to be supported with more advanced solutions, as the majority of them come from the most disadvantaged segments of society
