Unwanted consequences of higher luxury goods tax

I REFER to the reports under the headline "Luxury tax, a boon or bane?" (Sunday Star, Feb 26). It might be true that imposing higher tax on luxury goods could kill tourism shopping, as pointed out by some of the people interviewed. If this happens, the real victims would be people from low and middle income groups who work in the related sectors.
