Abstract
IT was heart-warming to see Malaysia’s longest-serving prisoner, Pak Rashid (real name Salleh Talib), stride out of Taiping Prison (“Free at last”-NST,Oct 4). He was sentenced to life imprisonment for armed robbery in 1979. After 30 years, he was granted a pardon by the Sultan of Kedah. I would like to thank the Sultan and those involved in working for his release, although I don’t know him. Much can be learnt from this prisoner’s experience. Maybe we can invite him to relate his unique experience at youth enhancement programmes in schools and other institutions. We are not applauding a person for going to prison, but his life must hold many useful lessons for our youth.
