The water-plastic connection

Abstract

WATER shortages are a pressing issue that many parts of the world face today, and it is a problem that has far-reaching consequences. For one thing, a lack of reliably potable water contributes to plastic pollution through the increased use of bottled water. This creates a significant amount of plastic waste, as each bottle is usually used only once before being discarded. It is important to note that it is not only die water bottles that are a problem but also their production process and transport, which also have an environmental footprint
that contributes to environmental stress. Furthermore, the production of bottled water is often more energy-intensive than the treatment of tap water, adding to the environmental burden.
