It's economic suicide

I REFER to the report "Indonesia makes it official -RM1,200 for maids" (The Star, May 24), where Indonesian authorities are demanding higher salaries for Indonesian maids. One of the main reasons that Malaysia hires foreign maids is to allow more women to work. Malaysia seeks to increase its female labour force from 52% in 2013 to 59% by 2020. However, only half of all Malaysian women currently work. Therefore, we are trying to get more women to work, so as to contribute to the family's and country's economy. To achieve that we have been hiring foreign maids.
