A senseless, endless war

Abstract

Yesterday was the fourth anniversary of the March 2003 invasion of Iraq by the United States and its allies. The avowed aim was to bring about regime change in order to cleanse Iraq of its weapons of mass destruction, to punish Saddam Hussein for alleged links with al-Qaeda and 9/11 and to prevent him from launching devastating attacks against Western regimes. We now know that all these allegations were shameless lies. The leaders of the US, Britain and Australia fabricated evidence and deceived their own people and the world at large in order to wage a racist, colonial war for a host of imperial, strategic and corporate goals.
